Full Description

Cairo Street Food walking tour combines perfect places in Cairo to discover tastiest street delights, visit to Egyptian Museum, downtown walking tour to taste Cairo streets food.

Street Breakfast

Let’s start our tour in the morning to catch the most delicious and fresh food ever cooked in the streets of Cairo. Our guide will pick up you from your Cairo hotel and let’s move to some famous Cairo streets to taste Egypt’s famous sandwiches of beans and falafel (tamiya). This is the most common breakfast for Egyptians. If you do not like sandwiches foul’ (boiled beans) can be served on a small plate instead with a loaf of traditional Egyptian bread and some pieces of pickles. Egyptian pickles are very delicious but sometimes very hot; usually it is made of carrots, small onions, hot peppers and turnip, other vegetables can be used as well. After our oriental breakfast let’s take a sit in a café-shop and have some drinks. One of the most popular drink in Egypt is helba, but you can try karkade or lemon juice known simply as l’amoon. In a cold morning sahlab (milk with corn starch and some nuts) is a good choice to worm you up.

Egyptian Museum visit

Now time to visit some sightseeing, so we’ll move to the National Egyptian Museum and take a two hours tour with our guide. See, what they ate in the past.

Oriental lunch in Koshari restaurant

Afternoon is a perfect time to experience another Egyptian street food. Let’s move to downtown and find one nice restaurant of Koshari to taste this national Egyptian invention. There are many good restaurants in downtown that offer this kind of food. Actually in every street of Cairo you will find such restaurant. What is koshari you may ask? Koshari is actually a mixture of different kinds of macaroni with some rice, black lentil, chicken pees, fried onions and tomato’s souse.

Desserts tasting

After our main course it’s right time to check some oriental desserts. Egyptians are sweets lovers! That’s why everywhere you will find shops selling oriental sweets and desserts. What we will try with you? Well, in Cairo downtown there is one of the most famous and old shop that sells oriental sweets, here always fresh you can taste “baspusa bel eshta” (semolina cake with cream), kunafa with cream or nuts, sweet fresh pie and very many other local desserts. You can choose between options available that you may like to taste.

Fresh juice sampling

And let’s finish our tour in a fresh-juice café where we can try any freshly squeezed juice from seasonal fruits. Always available mango and strawberry juice, orange and carrot juices. But if you want to know what real Egyptians drink themselves than you definitely have to try sugar-cane juice, freshly squeezed cup of pure sugar right into your mouth. Alternatively try cocktail juice from seasonal fruits. Usually it is strawberries, guava, mango, some apples. Now you know what Egyptian street food starts from and can experience other delicious dishes the country has to offer its guests.
