A short drive from your Cairo hotel will lead you to a green area of Dahshur villages where rural Egyptian community welcomes nature lovers, birds’ watchers and rural experiences enthusiasts. Let’s escape from a busy city life on our two day Rural Dahshur and Saqqara tour to immerse ourselves in a beauty and calm of countryside life. Our two day trip will be full of peaceful moments, delicious authentic food experiences, campfire and hiking activities, horseback riding (on request), authentic handicrafts practices and long walks through the green fields surrounded only by the sounds of nature.
We will start our day with a walk through Dahshur’s open fields to get acquainted with the local agricultural landscape, taking in the area’s vast date production capabilities and the wide variety of crops being cultivated in the season. Depending on the time of the year, the palm tree pruning or date season harvesting may be in session in Dahshur (from August to September), which presents a unique learning experience for visitors.
We’ll get a fine opportunity to witness and learn about the ancient techniques and handicrafts in Dahshur villages, including basket weaving with halfa grass and the greed craft of working palm branches to make boxes and baskets.
In the afternoon we will enjoy several rural meals, sourced directly from farm to table, and then make a visit to King Farouk lake for a walk through the halfa fields to enjoy a spectacular sunset and bird watching activities. In the evening let’s get to a lovely Snefru guesthouse where we will get our dinner and spend the upcoming night.
Our traditional home-made rural breakfast will be waiting for us in the morning. Then let’s have a tour at Dahshur’s landmarks – Bent, Red and Black pyramids - as it will be a shame not to make a quick visit if we are at the area already. We will stop by the pyramids, take in the splendor of these ancient structures in the early morning before the heat of the desert becomes oppressive. After the visit we will move to Saqqara area to visit the first ever built pyramid in Egypt – the Step pyramid of king Joser.
When we finish the visit let’s move to another beautiful rural area to discover farm life at al-Sorat farm. The farm is home to many (mostly rescued) animals: horses, dogs, sheep, goats, buffalo and much more. You will learn how the livestock are raised, how to milk a cow, pick fresh eggs, discover farming techniques, gardening tips and much more from the knowledgeable team running the farm.
We will get our lunch at the farm, spend some lovely hours enjoying the area and farm animals before moving back to Cairo.
