It is a huge cave with a unique natural beauty discovered in 1992 by Cairo miners who dug for alabaster in a desert near Beni Suef city. Later the Sannur Cave valley was announced a Natural reserve by the Egyptian government. The quality of the natural formations of the cave is the rarest in the world. The cave is 15 meters deep and covers the area of 700 sq. meters. Its stone forms and colors have been formed over millions of years as a result of the accumulation of sediments.
The distance from Cairo to Beni-Suef Governorate where the Sunnur cave is located, is around 200 km. It may take up to 2.5 hour to reach the place. The cave itself is situated in the desert about 10 km southeast of the main Beni-Suef city.
The protected area contains beautiful geological formations known as stalactites and stalagmites, that formed through millions of years. Its formation dates back to the middle Eocene period about 60 million years. As a result of the leakage of calcium carbonate saturated water solutions through the roof of the cave, then evaporated leaving behind those minerals that accumulated taking the shape of stalactites and stalagmites. Such natural formations in Egypt are very rare that’s why the cave became one of the important places in the country attracting many visitors to it.
Our tour to the Wadi Sannur Cave valley includes early pick up from your Cairo hotel and drive for 2-2,5 hours towards Beni-Suef city. The chambers are connected by a narrow corridor, just a metre long, and the whole thing extends for around 700 metres. The chambers have amazing formations. Moreover there is a very magical features of Sannur cave - its internal temperature. While it is sunny and hot outside the cave, inside it remains cool and breezy. Locals say that the temperature inside hardly changes at all through the seasons.
After the tour we will go back to the city of Bani-Suef for a lunch in a local restaurant and then drive back to your Cairo hotel.
