Full Description

Two days Jerusalem & Petra excursion from Sharm el Sheikh to visit Dead Sea and the holy city with its religious sites, and to discover ancient city of Petra in Jordan.

Jerusalem & Petra cities history

Jerusalem is one of the oldest cities in the world and is considered holy to the three major Abrahamic religions—Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Despite having an area of only 0.9 square kilometres (0.35 sq mi), the Old City of Jerusalem is home to many sites of seminal religious importance, among them the Temple Mount and its Western Wall, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Dome of the Rock, the Garden Tomb and al-Aqsa Mosque.

Petra was Nabataean capital city hidden among high rocks but by 1189 beautiful and one day flourishing Petra was abandoned and its name was even forgotten for many centuries. .

On the way to Jerusalem

Pick up from your hotel in Sharm el Sheikh in the early morning, transfer by air conditioned van or bus to Taba border. Crossing the border and meeting your tour-leader who will accompany you until Jerusalem. We will drive along the Arava Valley towards the Dead Sea with a short break at the Dead Sea. Then we ascend to The Holy City of Jerusalem. At Jerusalem your English speaking guide will meet you to introduce you to the city.

Jerusalem Holy Places

We start with a panoramic view from The Mount of Olives- a good place for an introduction to the city and its history.

We drive down to the Old City and visit the Wailing Wall, which represents the last remnants of the Jewish Temple, destroyed by the Romans. Usually you can see the various types of Jews who come to worship at this holy place.

Then we continue through the Arab Market Suq to the Via Dolorosa, Jesus Way of Suffering, which leads us to The Church of the Holy Sepulchre, where according to the Christian tradition Jesus was crucified and buried.

Then we’ll drive to the New City of Jerusalem along Israel's Government area, taking a look, among others, at the Knesset Building, housing Israel's Parliament.

On the way to Jordan

In the evening at the end of the tour, we will cross the border with Jordan and stay 1 night in 4* hotel on BB basis (dbl accommodation). Kindly note that single supplement is extra 25 GBP. In the morning after breakfast our English speaking guide will met you at your hotel to pick up for the tour.

Petra city visit

We start the tour on foot, though the Siq or the Canyon, a narrow, winding gorge over 1 kilometer in length. As you come to the end of this beautiful ravine, a very narrow opening offers a peephole to one of the most spectacular sites in Petra - the treasury or al-Khazna temple. Carved out of the side of the sandstone mountain face probably in the first century BC, scholars still debate as to its actual function.
As we walk now inside the other canyon our next stop will be at the Roman theater which dates back to Byzantine era & then the Royal tombs. Not a lot is known about the ancient culture of the Nabateans, except that they were excellent engineers. With amazing skills and crafts they built water conservation and irrigation systems and carved their homes, temples and tombs right out of the rocks. Now traces of their work can be seen in Petra.

Israel trip is a long day out, 32 hours altogether but well worth it. You will have to queue to go into Israel but if you're patient and you would like to have a fantastic one-off experience (especially the dip in the dead sea) I would recommend this trip. You get picked up from your hotel and taken to a pick up point, followed by being picked up by coach to take you to the Taba border, you walk through the border yourself where on the other side someone else meets you and puts you on English speaking coaches etc... We were on a coach with mixed languages and I worried a little, however; just before you go into Jerusalem the coach picks up the guides to take different groups, depending on languages. Our guide knew lots of information and he took us to see lots of sights. I loved this experience and being tired didn't stop me from being overwhelmed. I would suggest taking toilet paper and hand wash as the services which you stop at, are not exactly the most hygienic.
