St. George’s Monastery in Elim city

Your friendly guide who will accompany you throughout the journey will pick-up you from Sharm El Sheikh hotel after breakfast, around 06:30 am. We will take a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle to reach El-Tor city. The distance from Sharm el Sheikh to el-Tor city is 100 km, so it my take up to 1.5 hours to get to the first location. While on a journey enjoy scenic views of the South Sinai mountains and the coastal desert landscape.

Our first stop will be at St. George’s Monastery which is situated in el-Tor city, the Biblical name of which is Elim. It was here that Moses with the Israelites stopped at an oasis which had twelve springs and seventy palm trees. All of those springs still exist, but the palms have considerably increased in number over time.

We will spend some time exploring the monastery before moving to the next location known as Moses’ Bath. Here we can experience the therapeutic waters of Moses' Bath, a natural hot spring known for its healing properties. Let’s enjoy a refreshing swim amidst a serene desert oasis.

After the tour we will get lunch at a local restaurant and move towards St Catherine city. On the way if time allows we will make a short visit to Wadi Feiran Nuns Monastery (En Route). Wadi Feran is a large valley that stretches along a portion of the main road between St. Catherine and the western edge of the Sinai Peninsula. This oasis holds ruins of a monastery from the 5th century. There are many caves in the area where monks and hermits lived. There is also a modern, functioning convent called “Saba’a Banat” or Seven Girls Monastery.

By evening we will arrive in St. Catherine city, check in our hotel, have dinner and some rest before the night hike.

Spiritual journey to the holy pick of Mount Sinai

We start our spiritual journey to the holy pick of Mount Sinai at 3 am, accompanied by a local Bedouin guide. This experience will allow us to ascend the sacred mountain under the stars. The tour culminates with witnessing a breathtaking sunrise from the summit, followed by a visit to the historic St. Catherine’s Monastery in the morning. After descending we will get breakfast in our hotel and return back to the monastery around 9 am, as the gates open to the visitors.
Inside the monastery we will see the following places:
- The Burning Bush - believed to be the biblical bush where God spoke to Moses.
- The Chapel of the Holy Trinity - built over the site of Moses’ vision.
- The Monastery Library - home to one of the world’s largest collections of early Christian manuscripts and icons ( a separate entry ticket must be purchased on site) .

After the tour around the monastery we will return back to Sharm el Sheikh.
